Here at Southern Paint we realize how precious our environment and it's natural resources are.  To help preserve the resources for generations to come, we're slowly adopting new products and practices to decrease our negative environmental footprint.  In order to do this we're diligently researching new products to ensure we continue to supply the quality you've been use to for over 55 years. 

Below you'll find several eco-friendly products available at Southern Paint.  This section will continue to grow as we become more and more GREEN.

Coronado's GREENMARK Designation

The GREENMARK designation was designed to consistently produce products that minimize the impact on our environment while continuing to deliver the highest performance that consumer's demand. 

Coronado's GREENMARK designation meets or exceeds all United States Green Building Council's LEEDS standards for new construction and renovation projects.  Any Coronado product with the GREENMARK designation ensures that they're ultra low VOC and are formulated without harmful ingredients like lead, mercury, crystalline silica, and certain glycols.

Krud Kutter Products

All Krud Kutter Products are 3rd party tested in compliance with GLP standards by Eurofins Product Safety Laboratories and are deemed biodegradable. Krud Kutter Products are well-known for being environmentally Preferable Products which means they have a lesser effect on human health and the environment when compared with competing products. 

Krud Kutter also practices sustainable manufacturing practices.  Over 95% of Krud Kutter Products use absolutely no groups/secondary packaging and whenever possible, Krud Kutter captures waste material and uses it as Post-Industrial Material where it's incorporated back into the manufacturing process. Drums from raw materials are reused or sent back to the suppliers for refilling and all of their waste corrugate is sent off to be recycled.

The Krud Kutter facility is also energy efficient with a reflective roof coating on the warehouse roof to reduce radiant heat and energy consumption for cooling and lighting has been changed to high efficiency lighting to further reduce energy consumption.

The windpower series represents Strathmore's commitment to paper performance and the environment.  The products are manufactured with emission-free, wind generated electricity through the purchase of 100% certified renewable energy credits.  What's more, they're certified by the non-profit Center of Resource Solutions based in San Francisco, CA.

This silky-smooth, eco-friendly easel embodies form, function and beauty!  Its smart design expands for use on any steady surface and folds up for easy transport.  The expandable canvas supports extend to accommodate canvases up to 34" and folds to a compact, portable size of 16" x 14" 5".  Clasps keep materials secured for transport and storage while the slender design folds into an attache-style case with an easy access side storage tray.

The Biltmore Collection is LArson-Juhl's and the U.S. framing industry's first PEFC collection.  PEFC, which stands for Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification, traces the chain of custody of lumber product from forest to final product.  PEFC promotes sustainable forest management-environmentally, socially beneficial and economically viable management of forests for present and future generations-through independent third party forest certification.

Through PEFC, Consumers can be confident that they are purchasing a product that is from a well-managed, sustainable forest.

Concrete Repair Products

Our Pro Spec repair and restoration products qualify for LEED points for the U.S. Green Building Council.  The Pro Spec products qualify for points in the following areas:

• Indoor Environmental Quality, which includes low and non-VOC emitting adhesives and sealants.
• Materials & Resources, which include recycled content and regional production within 500 miles of the project.
• Post-Consumer recycled content.

The line of Pro Spec Level Set underlayments and wear toppings is casein-free, and the grouts features Micro Defense Technology, to prevent the growth of mold and mildew.

As for corporate sustainability, Pro Spec's commitment goes beyond the product offering contributing to LEED project points.  Pro Spec strives to minimize its impact on the environment in which their customers, employees and other stakeholders live and work.  They focus on conducting business responsibly by minimizing waste and following energy conservation guidelines.  Their commitment to their employees includes ensuring safe, accident-free workplace while providing training and workforce development.  They also strive to ensure the ongoing health and strength of our communities by generously donating their time and other resources. 

Our Practices

Faith, our office manager, demonstrates how she reuses paper by printing on the back of used paper.  Not only does this save us money, but it reduces the amount of trees to be harvested, the amount of trash in the landfills and the amount of energy it requires to perform those actions. 

We're also implementing recycle bins to collect cans, plastic, glass, and paper not suitable for reuse. 

Pete, the assistant paint department manager, demonstrates another way we reuse paper by taking a phone order on the back of used paper. 

Used laser printer cartridges and copy machine toners are dropped of for recycling.

Scrap metal from old store fixtures or product displays is collected for pick-up and brought to the scrap yard for recycling.
